1. This place doesn't have cooks that are Indian. 2. The food gave most of us in our party bad stomach cramps. 3. The server was rude. 4. Ran out of utensils. 5. Cramped dining area.
I love Pakistani food so my wife and I took a chance on this place despite the another review which suggested that the butter chicken was made of ketchup. Well, my wife had the butter chicken and I don't know that it's made of ketchup but it tastes like ketchup or cheap canned tomato soup. She ate some of the chicken and tossed the rest. I had beef nihari and chicken biryani. The nihari sauce was fine but the beef was very tough. I gave up on the beef and just ate the sauce. The biryani was one of the worst dishes I've ever been served. My wife and I both agreed that it both smelled and tasted strongly of an ashtray. Very strange. We got takeout so we can't really comment on the service. In the end, we threw away almost everything we ordered and we'll never go back.
The butter chicken was made with ketchup and little dry pieces of unknown chicken parts. The rice was hard (sitting so long it reverted back to being dry) The Nihari was all sauce, the little beef there was hard and full of hard lumps. We haven't had Indian in some time so we thought it would be nice to explore something new. As usual my wife wanted to check out reviews online to see what would be the best option and the most authentic. The reviews seemed fair for Exotic Tandoori, so we thought we would give it a shot. We got in and the restaurant was uncomfortably hot, we thought takeout would be the best option. The man at the register was nice and answered any questions we had. (the up sell in drinks was fine, he is in business after all) While waiting for our food to be "prepared", we saw the cook open the back screen and place the food from the buffet into takeout containers. We immediately stopped her and requested to eat in at the buffet (it's the same price as two items when getting takeout) rather than spend 23 dollars on two small take out containers which contain the same food from the buffet. The cook obliged and five minutes later brought out the four naans that were part of our take out meals. while eating an employee interrupted us and stated that when eating in you only get two pieces of naan and he would have to charge us an extra five dollars for the extra two pieces. We were not told by either of them prior to them bringing out the naan that it would be an extra charge. We asked why they did not tell us before bringing it out? at which point he said that it was already made and it was our fault for not asking how much two extra pieces of naan were. we told him that we had to wait for the naan and they had time to tell us before making it and again at that point he suggested we should have known? My wife not being one for being taken advantage told him that isn't acceptable and he can take all the naan back. She also told him that when telling the cook we would eat in, the cook could have told us that the naan would be extra and we would have decided if we wanted to save the five dollars and take it to go. The employee looks at my wife's plate (which had a table spoon of butter chicken sauce on it) and said "that will be 5 dollars, you cannot leave anything on your plate.... minimum 5 dollars". The atmosphere is dark, dirty and uncomfortably cramped. We never care about the ascetic appearance of a restaurant as long as the food is authentic and we are treated fairly. The Butter chicken my little cousin makes from a Jar is more like the indian food I tried while traveling in india. we finished our experience with being asked to leave and never come back. We are more than happy to oblige.
I lived in the neighbourhood and ate here often. The buffet is an all you can eat for about 8 dollars! Amazing butter chicken, tasty vegetarian dishes, etc. an all round real treat!
FOOD IS VERY GOOD SERVICE BEST NICE PLACE IN DOWNTOWN FOR A KASMEERI ,PAKISTANI FOOD
Not much to look at, this friendly Pakistani mom ’n’ pop hole-in-the-wall just off Toronto’s main drag and adjacent to the Manulife Centre puts many of the city’s linen-clad South Asian restos to shame. Made to order, each dish offers its own lively flavour profile based on skilful spice preparations at rock-bottom prices. Warning: there are a few tables, but much of the business is takeout. And if Pop is cooking rather than Mom, give the joint a wide berth.
