When Earl Klapstein’s father started Eddie’s Men’s Wear in 1958, the goal was to concentrate on quality Canadian-made men’s wear. “When we say we buy locally, we don’t mean within a 10-mile radius,” Earl says. “We buy from Canadian manufacturers first, then from North American clothiers, and then we go to Europe. We don’t go much further than that.”
Having participated in a family business that's been handed down through the generations, Earl has seen as many as three generations of customers come through the doors. “Our customers know what they like and they know about the 'buy local' movement. While food and produce have been given the local treatment, I think it’s time to concentrate on working with other local industries.”
Once you get over your excitement at the huge pool table, homemade treats and fresh coffee available here, you’ll turn your attention to the suits. Canadian brands, like Montreal brands Samuelsohn and Jack Victor, take the lead here top quality Italian and British brands. Casually shrug on a cashmere suit, or one made from camel hair and enjoy how it feels against your body. Vow to never take it off.
Another father-son, premium men’s clothier, Eddie’s Menswear is the domain of Eddie and Earl Klapstein. Have an off-the-rack shirt tailored or get yourself measured up for a bespoke version. The store’s primarily Canadian-made labels include Antonio Valente and Jack Lipson shirts and Tino Cosma ties. Also enjoy the establishment’s snooker table, as well as coffee and treats while you wait.
