The sushi itself is good and the prices are reasonable but I had a bad experience from the owner when I was given the wrong pick up order. Instead of apologizing for the mix up, she blamed me for picking up the wrong order. An honest mistake is totally allowed, but to place blame on a customer is totally unprofessional and unacceptable
Had a really terrible experience at this restaurant. We waited 2 hours for our food and they mixed up our orders. We had to continually ask for basic items that we did not get. Take out orders were definitely prioritized as we didn't receive our appetizers an hour into the meal. It would have been nice if they compensated us for such a long wait but they offered no such alternatives.
Please don't go to this restaurant, you can find something much better with more attentive staff and palatable
I love this place! I have tried everything from the teriyakis to the udon to the maki and its awesome across the board. I have been a customer since they first opened over ten years ago and the service is excellent as well. The owner is a joy to be around and makes her customers feel special (she definitely recognizes her frequent customers too which is a nice touch). I highly recommend this place.
This place has decent food. The sweet potato noodle appetizer was a great hit with my wife and I. We also enjoyed the salad and tea. For the food, my sushi tasted fresh and pretty good flavour. On the other hand my wife's teriyaki chicken was dry and hard to swallow but she did like the teriyaki sauce and the rice. Customer service was decent. Not a recommendation but a place to try.

They size of sushi are not tiny but are a veryyy good portion of size compared to the all you can eat places!

This is a great place for authentic Japanese and Korean food.
Quality is excellent. Can't even compare to the larger "all-you-can-eat" places.....Sakura is just on a different (higher) level of quality.
The owner is almost always there, and ensures each dish is made right. Their lunch specials are a good deal, and their spicy salmon rolls are amazing. They also have take-out service, so you can call ahead and place your order.
The only down side is that the place is quite small, so they usually only have one waitress working. Service can be slow at times when they're full/busy. Worth the wait, or just call ahead for take-out.
These guys have the best handrolls in the GTA, and normally I'm not a handroll kind of girl, but I'll sacrifice maki and sashimi any day for a spicy salmon handroll from Sakura.
We always choose Sakura if we are not feeling piggy enough to do all-you-can-eat but feel like sushi. They always give little bonuses with every course--little Korean appetizers including their AMAZING TO DIE FOR sweet potato noodles (you wouldn't know them to see them, they are totally clear, but made from sweet potato!), or a bonus handroll with your sushi boat, or even some artfully cut navel oranges for dessert. Their sushi is artistically done, beautiful dragons and boat displays, and all of their ingredients are always cut so precisely and perfectly, you'll never get that big chunk of cucumber or that too-tiny sliver of avacado that you find at most other sushi places.
Their tea is also fantastic, and we've bought it dry to make at home as well--probably the best tea I've ever tasted.
Sakura has the best spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls in Pickering. The service is very friendly and everything I have tried on the menu is great. There are several other Japanese places nearer to my home but this is my go-to choice for excellent, fresh food and friendly service.
Sakura has very good sweet potato noodles! This is a side dish that often gets overlooked and overshadowed by your sushis and makis. Try it, you will love it. Good food, Japanese cuisine adjusted to Canadian taste, but worth the price. They make their seaweed salad with three different types of vegetable and this is not my favourite. Sashimi is excellent. They never have uni nigiri (the sea urchin) but this is quite common. So if you are a serious sea foodie you might have to compromise a little. Still worth going back.
We made a small order about a couple weeks ago and thought it was very good. The sushi was top notch and the service was fantastic. They even threw in a couple extra hand rolls for us. We ordered the 110 piece plater last night with a bunch of friends and everyone had nothing but rave reviews. I've been to many sushi houses downtown T.O. and this place is by far the best I've ever had.
Best tasting spicy tuna maki and spicy salmon maki in the area. The friendliest and nicest people that you can met in the restaurant business. Small place but nice and cosy.
First Impressions not very good, the place smelt very funky when we walked in. You also have to sort of walk through the kitchen (which you can see in and doesn't look clean) to get to the bathrooms. We ordered 2 salmon hand rolls to start, NOT "spicy" salmon. Brought us the wrong ones, had to wait for new ones. The service was very slow and the waiter forget to bring us our miso soup and our salad with our lunch, we even had to ask for soy sauce bowels. The food was very disappointing and none of the serving dishes looked very clean. Wasn't even busy in there so its not like we were forgotten about, will def NOT be returning there...
We go for lunch every Tuesday for the special. Always excellent. Sakura actually turned people into Sushi eaters who were not before. I have tried all the Japanese restaurants in Pickering and Sakura is the one we enjoy the most.
Wow! This is the best sushi restaurant we have been to- and we've been to many. The service is excellent with friendly staffand the sushi and sashimi were so fresh. We will be regular customers and will be recommending them to all our sushi lover friends.
they always feed you very well and some things for free.. always fresh and i have never had anything that wasn't good..very nice staff and helpful... best sushi in Durham eat in and take out is very good.. well proced 2 people cause eat well for under 20$
They have the most personable staff. The food/sushi is EXCELLENT..I have recommended to many. The atmosphere very intimate..but most of all very hosptitable. I left behind some id by accident and within a half hour they notified me.
