This restaurant was a pleasant experience. All the guest of my party thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes they chose. The kitchen and serving team were very quick and effective, although they may not serve a party of 8 every day the service was just as if we were a party of 2.
Every time my parents come to visit me in Ottawa, we go to Von's Bistro. The food is delicious, the service is great (we've actually had the same server almost every time), and the atmosphere is wonderful. I do miss the vegetarian ragu penne with feta cheese on top - it was a rich, delicious sauce with perfectly cooked penne and lovely feta cheese. The portions are well priced and quite large - very good for sharing. Unfortunately they have replaced it with another vegetarian pasta dish that just does not compare. I have been there for lunch and dinner, but I prefer the dinner. My only complaint would be lack of vegetarian options, but I continue to go there for the pasta. The stuffed pasta, when its stuffed with cheese, is always delightful and plentiful. The salad is large and very well done. Even the bread they serve is quite tasty. We also had the bourbon pecan chocolate tart one time and though I dislike pecans, I thought it was amazing!
Arrived for early dinner around 5pm. Food was a little slow to get to the table, however, those who walked in after us seemed to get their food in good time. The bruschetta was served two ways and was tasty and good. I had a filet mignon - steak, veggies were good, the potatoes were mashed then fried with what tasted like coconut over top. Different, but good. My bf had the bison briskett, he really enjoyed it (the dog loved the leftovers too!). The last part at the table had salad. Also, my boyfriend consumed at least 4 glasses of iced tea, and two by the other party. The waiter was kind enough to only charge us for 2. :) Good service and personable waiters. Will return.
All & all we all enjoyed our meal.....service was a tad slow but they were a little busy i will retugrn Naan pizzaIf you like your pizza with lots of tomato sauce, then this one is not for you. My naan pizza came layered with lots of goat cheese on top of slices of smoked salmon. Lots of salmon and lots of cheese. Not much else, except a few onions
I went on a Sunday evening when there were no a lot of people that, I was probably the last one to leave. Waitress was friendly, looking after the customers with a smile. Mussel was fresh and tasty. The duck confit can be more crispy, but the presentation was pretty good, and I liked the their mix of vegetables. If they can lower the price a bit, it will be perfect. Too expensive for 1 person.
Cozy warm atmosphere Soft music Subtle decor Very clean Excellent service Variety in menu selections Very substantial proportions Food presentation very good The food was done to perfection A most enjoyable and memorable evening. A high recommendation.
I eat at Vons whenever I'm in the neighbourhood (The Glebe) because it's got great atmosphere, high ceilings, a funky blend of classy art-deco, great dinner (jazz) music, pristine linnens, hardwood floors, brass taps and high stools at the bar. The ingredients are premium produce with emphasis on taste and presentation, not size - as in; you don't need huge helpings if everything on your plate is delicious and well prepared because you actually eat it all - service is friendly & prompt, prices (by comparisson to neighbouring downscale establishments) are actually cheaper(!). Hours of opperation are perplexing to some as they close for a few hours in the mid afternoon but is reflected in the cleanliness and care with which they present themselves and their fare. There is no shortage of regulars who are more than willing to accomodate this trifiling inconvenience. Having lived nearby for over 15 years and having seen competitors come & go, it is without peerage. No, I don't work there ;) it really is that good. Oh yes - one more thing; you can still get a glass of wine for $5 or a bottle for $25 and I don't mean house or table wine. Also, I recomend a chocolate truffle for desert whether you're on a diet or not - there are other deserts but the truffles are to die for.
The food was way better than expected, and my expectations were high. Will return... often
