As a frequent patron of MDJ for the past 6 years, I have started to notice something very peculiar lately. I have to admit that the food is great and the price is very, very reasonable. But in our last 3 visits, it seemed that specific items from our order are either intentionally delayed or omitted all together. Coincidence? May be...however, I am starting to get a strong sense that the restaurant is no longer practicing what it is advertising. Having said that, we will visit MDJ again and hopefully the service issues were just our imagination, or just a coincidence.
Been here several times. Food is always good. Pretty decent service. Food arrives fairly quickly even when they are real busy. Their alaska roll is so good and so is the fried golden eel! Great AYCE place
I have been going to Maison for 2+ years now. I really enjoy the fast service and spicy salmon sushi. The atmosphere can be hit or miss as they tend to be rammed with people and can get quite loud, however, that isn't their fault. Sometimes they forget some sushi but that is expected at AYCE sushi places. Their spicy mayo is the best I have had.
I went there with a friend who lives in Toronto while I was visiting. It was okay; nothing impressive though. For a lunch during the week it wasn't too expensive, and the place seemed busy enough. I wasn't super impressed with some of the rolls though, lots of rice. Good place to satisfy a sushi craving on a budget though.
I like how the place is very spacious and the service is quite fast but the quality of the food can be questioned. I came at around 6 ish a few weeks ago and when I ordered my first round, the tempura seemed like it had been lying around there and reheated then I ordered my second round and the food tasted completely different (I ordered a few of the same things). the food was much fresher and seemed to be freshly made. Overall, the food is nothing special just the regular AYCE sushi but the service is better than most AYCE places. I might consider coming back but all in all, nothing quite special about this place.
This has got to be my favorite AYCE sushi place so far. The food selection is great, the food tastes great, service is very efficient and the atmosphere is perfect (spacious, relaxing). I have tried a few other AYCE sushi places but none managed to go over the bar that has been set by this restaurant.
A decent AYCE sushi place. No major complaints. The price is good. You tell the server what you want and they keep bringing it to you. Softdrinks were included.
To be honest, I can see why some people would like this place-but I did not. The food quality was under average for what one would expect for Japanese food. It wasn't horrible, however I've had much better. For $22, and the amount I could eat, it's not worth it. Also, the waitresses weren't too friendly or helpful, it's as if they served food from arms length then ran away quickly.
the food was blend , their suchi is no good ,service was slow ,nothing really special !! no way I visit this place again !! 2 out of 5 !!
This is my favourite sushi place of all time. In fact, whenever I go, about 10 of my friends can't be stopped from joining me. The food is awesome, and their service is fast. Those are the two most important things at an AYCE Sushi restaurant. We're constantly throwing shopping lists of food at the servers and they never miss a beat.
This is one of those places that has got a great combination - incredible amount of well prepared food, that is of superior quality to most other Japanese restaurants. Truly a gem - If you're going for lunch with a big crowd, get there early (11:45AM) or you'll be waiting for a while. Otherwise, they usually have plenty of room Food for thought: This restaurant has incredible turn over. They value efficiency. For example, if, when ordering, you take 5 minutes and haven't thought ahead, they will ignore you. If you take 2-3 minutes ahead of time and figure out what you'd like to eat, and then flag down a waiter, they'll treat you well.
great Japanese stuff-your-face-with-food place, go with empty stomach and big appetite and you will be amazed. MDJ is one of those special spots where they do thing differently. You read off menu items to a waiter, anything you want to eat, anything. 10 minutes later they food is delivered. The food is better than this one Japanese restaurant I wen to to that charged and arm and a leg for sushi and tempura.
This used to be our regular Japanese AYCE place, but we started eating too much of it so we haven't gone back in some time. It's a good place to go though. The food is good and the service is good. I can't remember anything that was really great but, it was satisfactory. You should try it : )
We've been to a number of AYCE Japanese restaurants and this one is by far the best. Fresh food, good variety, speedy service and they actually bring you everything you order (unlike many other AYCE places we've been to). As for the waitstaff, some are definitely better than others but you're not limited to ordering from one person so if one of them isn't as helpful as you'd like, just flag down someone else.
We were all very impressed. Very fresh and tastes wonderful. We ordered Take-Out and it was ready on time, good price, etc. etc. We would definitely reccomend this restuarant. Can't wait to eat in! 7A Platter feeds 3 people perfectly, 4 people with a side dish. Mind you, we eat a lot!
I have been to this restaurant about 10 times now over the past 6 months. Some servers suck. Others are great. The food is really good and quick (always). Of course, I have had better rolls at non-all you can eat sushi places. BUT for the price, the quantity and decent service, I love this place. The spicy mayo is AMAZING!!! The sashimi is decent (again, better at other restaurants, but not all you can eat). The black pepper beef is awesome, the edaname is always hot and salted well. Lots to choose from and worth your time. BUT, if you get a horrible server (esp. the one female), don't completely banish the restaurant. Most of the other servers, esp. one of the male servers, are excellant and kind. Hope this helps.
Maison du japon is probably my favourite sushi place ever.... I think that the service was good but not the greatest and the sushi is to die for... i recommend maison du japon to everyone
This place is amazing. Sometimes you get a server who is rude, but on the most part it is great and the food comes so fast.
We have been here previously. Some waiters/waitresses are much more service-oriented than others. Consistently miss ordered dishes but we would just re-order them. Lunch time is better service-wise and a better value for your money.
I agree with some of the other reviewers, the service is not the best at this place. The first waiter who came to help us was VERY RUDE when we asked him to describe some of the rolls we were not familiar with. If they can't find wait staff that are more polite, they would be well-served to put some detail on the menu about how many pieces are in each order, what the ingredients of each roll is and maybe even a picture? Otherwise the place is a real turnoff for people who are trying Japanese food or sushi for the first time since it's very hard to order when you don't know what you're getting. Anyway, the food itself is pretty good. I like Naha sushi in Richmond Hill too- the lunch buffet is sort of the same idea but I found the service to be faster at Maison. Will come back again because the food is good, but with lower expectations for polite and helpful waiters.
