We just had a family function of 25. The food, the service and the beautiful set were all amazing. Sal and his team of people were fantastic and extremely accommodating.
Horrible experience. Service was awful, food wasn’t the greatest. The waits were atrocious. 40 minutes for a drink, 1.5 hours for apps, 2 hours for food. When asked for something our waitress was a bit snarky.
Great food and timely delivery. also very nice down to earth people.
Great place to eat in the city and also love getting their take out. Their pizzas are my favorite just need to get light on the sauce!
Great place for an afternoon business lunch. Pizza was fantastic.
You can this was a place that was booming in the days of yesteryear. It looks like what I expected a place to look like in the 60s. And apparently it has been there almost as long and has not changed. The decor is dated and a bit over the top but it is clean and maintained well. Apparently there is some sort of grand hall upstairs for event. I had a standard pizza which came in good time and tasted great. My mom loved here meal of pasta with meatballs. My only gripe on this visit is that when it came time to pay the bill, our server seemingly forgot we were there, otherwise she was quite pleasant and attentive. I'll try it again.
We are new to the area and are furiously trying all of the Italian restaurants in the area in order to find our favourite. My wife and I are both Italian and she ONLY eats Italian food. After reading the info on their website we figured we would get a great homemade Italian meal. When picking up our order we thought the decor was nice. We ordered the spaghett with meat sauce (a fairly standard item), and garlic bread w/ cheese. We really wanted Angelhair pasta, which they do not offer; strange! The only good thing about this meal was the fresh bread. The garlic bread with cheese was burnt, too thin and crispy. The pasta was absolutely awful! So much so that my wife refused to eat it, I'm serious here, it was that bad. The sauce was runny and the only flavour present was an odd taste that can only be described as 'dish soap'. Terrible terrible terrible!!!
came here after a friend recommending it. my bf and his brother and his gf all went there. the lady who was the waitress wasent very pleasent looked miserable as well. we found a hair in our food and the waitress tried telling us that all the kitchen ladies wear hair nets. the food had no taste very bland. not impressed at all
I ordered for delivery, and to be honest, I didn't expect much out of the presentation (because it came in delivery containers) but it looked as great as it tasted. Everything was hot and delicious, and came in large portions. I had the veal sandwich, and it was tender and moist, and incredibly filling. My girlfriend had the chicken parmesan with spaghetti, and was very impressed! She swears it tasted like her nonna's homemade pasta sauce. We will be ordering again. And again!
This place has been around for years and is still going. Why? Because it is a lil bit of Italy right here in Hamilton. The service is friendly and the restaurant is decorated beautifully. We love the italian music playing in the background! btw some of the best lasagna you will ever try! Plus a decent size glass of house wine to enjoy it with.Bravo Capri!
Never dissapointed - another great place to introduce people to. The food is FANTASTIC and the atmosphere is quant and romantic. Its also one of my favourites for delivery!
We did not dine in, but ordered take-out Pizza, then two weeks later delivery pizza. What a nice surprise the pizza from The Capri is! They even have the dough ball in the center so the the box top doesn't stick to pizza toppings in transit. All the ingredients were fresh. Vegetables are thinly sliced and dough is not heavy. Sauce is nice a mild so you can taste all the other ingredients. They put the cheese on top just like a Montreal pizza too! So to the ex-Montrealers - rejoice this is the only place in town I've discovered that does the cheese on top. LOVED EVERY BITE we will RETURN FOR NEXT PIZZA NIGHT!
After hearing a lot about this restaurant from co-workers, my husband and I decided to try the place out. The decor was nice, it was in between warm and inviting to a "this is a place where big families come to enjoy a good time and talk" type of atmosphere. We went on a not so busy Friday night a few weeks ago and were seated in okay timing but were left to wait for some time before our order was taken. Which wasn't a horrible wait, but found it a bit odd that the waiter who served us water was then more attentive to setting up tables than to the existing patrons. Again, we weren't in a big rush so it wasn't that big of a deal. We both ordered the veal parmigiana with the pasta with meat sauce as the side and bruschetta to start. We quite enjoyed the bruschetta, the best I've tasted in a long time. The tomatoes were ripe and deliciously seasoned and the bread was nice and crisp! As with most Italian style restaurants we also got bread to accompany our main. Which were more like large deli-sized buns and were also very delicious and toasty warm. The salad was nothing spectacular, but we were happy to get a salad included in our meal. There are a few other Italian style restaurants that do not offer this. The veal was very yummy! It was well seasoned and very good. It was a very thin sliced but it took over my entire oval plate, so really, who could complain about that? The meat sauce was a little disappointing, as we were expecting something very original from everything we heard from my coworkers. It was under-seasoned. We were expecting a sauce with chunks of tomatoes, but instead got a sauce that was very smooth with a little meat mixed in. Overall the experience was "Adequate", meaning, it wasn't the greatest experience but other the positives did completely outweigh the negative ones and I do hope to go back for the bruschetta and try a dish without tomato sauce.
I had been craving good Italian food and had heard only good things about Capri. So, I went, and I was amazed at how low Hamiltonians' standards are if we believe that this is acceptable cuisine. First, the watered down cocktail is something that you find in many restaurants, so I'm not holding it against them, but still, it should be mentioned that if you're going to waste your money, taste buds, and calories at Capri, stick to drinking water. The bruschetta was unlike anything I've ever tasted. It was served on toasted sliced bread that had been left to cool to room temperature after being toasted. I've never encountered such preparation before. And the tomatoes were ice cold (anyone who knows anything about food does not store fresh tomatoes in the fridge) and had absolutely no seasoning. The salad was a standard pile of lettuce with a few other veggies tossed on top; nothing to praise or criticize. It just was what it was. I ordered squid marinara with penne. Their menu states that the calamari is "fresh." I had my doubts, but I'd been craving seafood, so I took a chance. As someone who spends half the year living in a coastal city, I know what fresh seafood tastes like, and this wasn't it. It had absolutely no flavour, indicating to me that it was from a frozen, manufactured bag; I could have had better calamari from my grocer's freezer. Never in my life, anywhere else in the word, have I had squid with no flavour. And the sauce... Oh dear... How can an Italian restaurant get away with passing off tomato soup as marinara sauce? Furthermore, the penne was a mixture of the smooth and lined types, clearly from two separate boxes of pasta, which I could have made at home for far less money. In order to give my meal a hint of flavour, I had to make excessive use of the pepper shaker on the table. My dinner companions ordered the very small and limp vegetarian lasgna in the same tomato soup sauce and the breaded veal, which also had absolutely no seasoning; all my dinner guest could taste was oil. Two enthusiastic thumbs down for Capri. If restaurantica would allow me to give it 0 stars, I would.
The Capri is one of Hamilton's best hidden secrets, they've been around for 40+ years and I've been eating their food for most of my life. Its always great, whether ordering to take out or dining in, the food and service is always the best! It seemed as though they were going through some tough times a few years back as the service and food lacked the usual kick it always had, but they've made some changes and fixed whatever was broke. I will continue to order from there or dine in as long as they are around!! The Bocconcini is theeeee Best that I've ever had, its AMAZING!!
We absolutely love the Capri, and it's my favourite restaurant when I'm really hungry. The food is amazing, authentic italian. The decor is like an old european taverna, with great italian pop music playing, and I always feel like I'm in a movie when I'm sitting in their dining room (I hear lots of movies have used the Capri as a filming location). If you have never gone, check it out. Whenever I'm there, and it has been often, the food, service and ambience are always wonderful. I have no idea how anyone could be in a bad mood and not enjoy their food in the Capri.
This the first review I have ever written regarding a restaurant but I want to warn others who may want to visit the Capri in Hamilton. The Good: The only good thing about the entire occasion was the tea which was blueberry. It was very good even though I had to ask for some milk for it. The Bad: The Italian salad. This was very poor since there was literally 1/4" of vinegar in the bottom of the bowl. At one point, I started gagging from the amount. The Ugly: I ordered Penne with tomato sauce. The wait staff did not write anything down and, as such, brought out spaghetti with tomato sauce. When I told her that she had made a mistake, I was told that she thought that I had said spaghetti. No big deal but one could write down what the customer orders. Dah! She did come back with what I had ordered which was the penne and ate about 3 bites and gave up. The "sauce" was basically pink water. Dishwater would have had more taste. I told the wait staff that it was terrible, had no taste and was watery. I even offered her to taste it herself. She offered another dish, however, I was dubious about the quality of anything else. My husband and I waited for the bill and when presented were told that "he took off half of the penne". Half! I only ate a total of 3 bites and only half of the amount was removed? Needless to say that Capri is off our list. Too bad since in the past, the food was pretty good. Perhaps the management has changed. Save your money Hamiltonians. Buy a jar of Prego and a package of penne/spaghetti yourself. You'll have a much better dinner!
I absolutely love Capri! I love that the decor hasn't changed from when I went there 20 years ago (although it is clean and they had some lovely seasonal decorations). Served by long-standing loyal eager to please staff. The antipasto tray with olives, meats and cheeses is one of the best I've had in the city. I enjoyed the caesar salad. I've had their veal parmg., risotto, lasagna, always very good. Lots of food and attentive service. Their pizza is consistently great - has been my favourite since the 80s. I'm so thrilled that places like this are still around. It's not new or glitzy, As I said, it is a traditional italian restaurant with long-standing, pleasant and warm staff. I will definitely return. I also go there annually for a Christmas dinner meeting.
Terrible Terrible .... TERRIBLE!!! A group of us went out for a birthday party. I wish I had read some reviews on this place before we attended it. The worst experience, and the worst food. This place is the pits! Service - It was bad for many reasons. Appetizers came out 2 at a time and they waited 10 mins before bringing out the rest , Same with dinner. When we asked why where the rest of our food was, she responded we have the food ready ahead of time, and we are still heating it up.. ( not appetizing ) The dinner a similar experience, one dish did not come out until 20 mins after the first ones! Food - Garbage food. Comparable with food you would expect to find at a college cafeteria. Salads where saturated with dressing! The lettuce itself was also not fresh , with brown bits. The dinner itself looked as if they boiled some Unico pasta and added some canned sauce, it was oily , salty, but just plain terrible. Like I said I wish I read some reviews as many reviewers agree. After all this the owner personally came out to say sorry to all of us for a terrible dinning experience and attempted to rectify the situation with a discount on our dinner. We had only complained about the service. The food was our own faults, since this is apparently their specialty, and we should have researched. However what made the experience even worse when when I went to pay and person that was helping me pay commented on how rude I was. That was the icing on what was supposed to be a great night out with family and friends. I would never in my life go back to this restaurant, even if it was the last place on earth and I was starving to death.
I love the pizza bianca, affectionately called the caprizza in my family. Hubby held my 30th b-day with 20 friends in the back and everyone loved it. Thank you for another great night Capri! I don't like the lasagna though :(
