My bf worked at moms resturant and they treat their staff very poorly. I have eaten there also and the service isn't the best the food is below average and they charge too much
Change did Mom's good. Not sure who the new owners are, but we only went back because we heard the old ones were gone. The biggest difference, these people care, my breakfast was fast, hot, and very good. I went to college up the road, and after being treated poorly repeatedly by the previous owners, I said I would never go back. Well, am I ever glad I did. This is my new favorite breakfast spot in Barrie. Love it. Great job Mom's!!!!
My husband and I have been regular patrons at Moms for many years in the past. We have recently moved back into the area and thought we would try the new ownership. We thought we would get a nice breakfast like the Corsons served. To our disappointment it was not even close. The eggs were cold and the peameal bacon was a poor excuse for peameal. Sorry we won't be back.
We have recently rediscovered this great restaurant. In reading the reveiws online it is apparent that some older reviews are still present. There has been a change of ownership in 2010 which has certainly gone a long way to improving both the food and service at Mom's. I would suggest you take all the older and less than positive comments off this site which are giving afalse impression of this great little gem in Barrie's north east end..
We went to Mom's last night with some friends, and it was fantastic. I had the Surf & Turf and it was delicious, and it was a great price. My husband had the prime rib, he said it was great. We all had the 3 course dinner options so we could try some of great looking dessert, and we were not dissapointed. Our service was great. I would recommend this place, we truly impressed, they are doing a great job over there.
We go to Mom's about once a week, and we always have a fantastic experience. We have noticed that the quality has really improved. The service is always very good, everyone is so nice, and really make you feel welcome. We have started to go more often, they now have 3 course dinners mon-thurs for $19.95. They also started to carry a bigger variety of desserts, the last time we were there, someone was buying a dozen butter tarts to take to work. Great job Mom's, you are fantastic.
We went for breakfast on Saturday Oct 22/11. We were so dissapointed with the service we got. The food was average at best and the price was well above what it should be. Our coffees refilled only came when we requested them. We waited for long for the waitress to finally come and take our orders.
My friends and I have been going to Mom's for years for breakfast on Sundays. At first when we heard the Corson's were selling we were worried that we may not have a breakfast hang out location anymore, but we are pleasantly surprised that the new owners have kept up the good work and exceeded our expectations! The food is AMAZING! now you can get poached eggs all day everyDAY and the EGGS BENEDICT are the best in town. Our food was hot, and delicious, our server was efficent and super friendly. The kitchen staff was amazing, someone in the party has a gluten allergy and our server asked the chef to cook his food in a seperate pan and it was no problem at all! Thank you! so often we feel bad for asking this...but she assured us they woudl do it without a doubt! We had a great time, the food was super and no one was rushing us out like they used too...we left full and happy! Highly recommend giving this place a chance, even if you have had a bad experience! The new owners took over in the fall and they have done a great job! KUDOS
ok, so after reading a lot of TERRIBLE reviews my party and I almost didn't come to Mom's but we heard through the grapevine there was a new owner, real chefs working there and that the staff actually enjoyed working now. So we went for a late lunch/dinner and as soon as we arrived the sweetest lady we have ever met greeted us at the door. She was very polite, very happy to see us and very helpful as my aunt had a wheelchair so we needed a seat that was accessible for her. The hostess gave us our menus, and let us know our server would be right over. The server came over, smiling and got us our drinks with 3 minutes of sitting down. One thing we all noticed right away EVERYONE who was there was smiling!!!! When the server came back to deliver the drinks, she told us the dinner features, soups and even recommended what she thought we would like! So we listened to her advice and ordered the Prime rib, it was cooked to perfection the way we like it. the meat was so juicy and tender, the potatoes delightful and eventhough none of us are big veggie eaters they were GREAT! The food didn't take long to get, maybe a little longer because someone at the table had a chicken parmigiana but it was worth the wait. We went to the salad bar, which looked fab all fresh and fully stocked up for a busy night. The server brought us refills, cleared our plates almosy immeadiately upon finishing and then she gave us a run down of the desserts. We had heard the pies were to die for but didn't literally believe they were. Our server recommended the Chef's homemade pecan pie, and we were delighted!!!! when we were leaving not only did our server thank us, the hostess did , the chef thanked us through the window and as the new owner walked in she also thanked us for our business. We will be back and we will be recommending the NEW mom's to EVERYONE!!!! So for anyone who reads the reviews and second guess giving this little gem a try keep in mind, new owners have taken over and they are really spicing things up. They have a kitchen staff that are all trained in their field including a red seal chef, who was cooking when we were there and he is PHENOMENAL! And lovely wait staff who are a pleasure to dine with, we felt right at home. Thank you Mom's staff for a super night out!!!! Like I said we will back!!!!!
My coworkers and I heard about Mom's and thought we would try it for lunch, as is our habit every week. After waiting for the overworked waitress to acknowledge us, we were seated. The menu was pretty simple, nothing to interesting. I ordered the lunch platter, which consisted of a very plain sandwich (my own are much more interesting!) and had to ask for extra ingredients, like cheese, mayo, tomatoes! everything was ala cart. And I think it came with some 'old' tasting coleslaw and it was just a bit underwhelming and very very average. My co-workers had something else, but we cant even remember what it was! It was just a cafeteria lunch, barely worth the trip. And a bit more expensive than what we do pay at the cafeteria.
We made a reservation for our party of eight on a busy day, and waited in cue when we arrived behind a busy counter. Several minutes later, they told us we were too late (8 minutes) and that our table couldn't be held. While rescheduling to come later when they could fit us in, an additional staff member arrived, was rude to us about being late, and seemed to not want us to come back. Her comments were unprovoked as we understood that it was busy and no one in our party had reacted towards any of the staff for our table being given away. Again, we're talking about being 8 minutes late, and by the time anyone acknowledged us, we had already been in the restaurant for several minutes. It was an extremely unprofessional handling of the situation.
This is a great place to eat and spend time with your family and friends. This resturaunt has the best food in town!. Great service and works hard to do everything the right way. I love their french onion soup and the breakfast menu is awesome. I would definitly keep coming to Mom's. Fantastic Food! :)
Mom's is a great little place where you can really enjoy food just like at home. It's not fancy but it sure is homey feeling!!! I love coming in with my associates early mornings during the week, our server is so polite and always makes us laugh. It's great to go to Mom's and feel like they are truly happy to see you come in. The service is always fast even when the server is by herself which is most mornings that I have been there. Even when she is busy, she makes sure that we all have a beverage to enjoy will she devlivers food or takes an order from the table that arrives before us. I must say that servers at other places need to take a lesson from some of these girls, they work with a full restaurant and have to clear and set tables and keep the restaurant clean all while serving the customers promptly and with a smile on there face. Now for the food, I almost always get the "Old Faithful' Breakfast, the cook ALWAYS makes my eggs perfect and I love the hashbrown potatoes that they have early in the morning ( if you're lucky) The coffee is always fresh, the only thing I will say is sometimes there is a little too much butter on the toast. And if you have been there, this goes without saying this is the cleanest restuarant I have ever seen. It always smells and looks fresh and when she has a spare moment the server is always cleaning something. I would have to say that I enjoy my visits at Mom's from start to finish. I will be back again and again and again and again and again...
Over 10 years ago, I used to come to with my parents to "Mom's" almost every weekend for dinner. My family loved it, we always enjoyed the great service, good food and good value. On a return to Barrie for the first time in a long while, I thought I would bring my wife as she had heard of it, and especially as she is a hockey lover and knows of the Corson connection to the restaurant. We were severely disappointed. The service was extremely slow, and the host and waitress could not muster a smile. It may not be their fault entirely since they seemed understaffed and overworked. We could only see one waitress for the entire place, which was a typical Saturday night crowd. The chicken was, as another commentor noted, rubbery, flat and preformed. I expect that from a sub shop, not from a restaruant that is charging around $13 for "chicken breast." The salad bar was not completely stocked, and no one from the staff appeared to be checking it. The meal took 1/2 hour to arrive...very slow for something that looked and tasted microwaved. The portions were small. My baked potato did not come with anything, even butter, though I asked for it. The ONLY saving grace is the pie, which is still homemade and delicious. We shared a very expensive piece of it. Our impression is that the famous customer service and value of previous days are long gone. Very sad.
After coming to Mom's for a second chance with a neighbor that enjoys the restaurant I was disgusted. I had no idea what to get on the menu because nothing looked appealing - so I ordered the grilled cheese. I was disappointed with the service as like many other's my drinks were not refilled. The place was filled with elderly individuals - maybe because they are the only ones who put up with it? On a high note - the pie was great! I would return only to buy an entire pie.
The food and service was outstanding! Was not expecting much after reading reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. Prime rib was melt in your mouth, gravy and tomato basil sauce was obviously homemade. Reminds me that anyone can post reviews on these sites - even those with a personal axe to grind. Again, the food was excellent as was the service.
All homemade food!!! best Gravy, fresh fruit pies, and the hashbrowns were to die for.
I went to this restaurant with a few friends who recommended it. After reading the reviews of this place was I reluctant to give it a try. I had very low expectations to be honest. When I arrived I noticed the home-style decor and friendly atmosphere. The food we ordered came 15 minutes after we ordered it which was perfectly acceptable. One of my friends had the salad bar, which I thought was very small with only a few dressings, small salad topings and lettuce. My hamburger steak was on a piece of bread and covered with gravy. It was very tasty and the portion size was not "ample" but nevertheless reasonable for $8. The home fries were the frozen type which where just deep fried. I expected them to be pan fried and made with fresh potatoes as that is what I am used to. Desserts available were a few kinds of pie and cheesecake. Each slice was about $5 and they were good sized portions. An interesting note; the owner's name was Corson and the business card mentioned Mom's is a preferred dining spot for Darcy Tucker and Shayne Corson.
I never got to the point of ordering. I was so appalled by not only the way I was spoken to, but also by the lack of service up until that point. After waiting for about 10 min. to even be greeted, they felt that because it was the lunch rush, they had every right to be rude.
We went to this place on all that hype about Shane Corson and such. What can I say ? I will not go back. The portions, with the exceptions of salads, are on a small side. The food was non-eventful - pretty much the same you will find in any greasy spoon, not really in line with all the hype about the place. Peas in the soup were firm, and the soup itself was very salty. The gravy was the kind you would make from concentrate, again, generously salted. Altogether - an ok place if you are desperate. If you have a choice, take your business elsewhere.
